House for a Photographer | FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects
House for a Photographer is a home and studio designed by Japanese firm FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects. The home, located in Shiga, Japan, is situated on a country road surrounded by traditional Japanese structures.
The most resounding feature of this house is the corrugated steel that envelopes the entire façade of the upper story. The steel is both an aesthetic choice and a practical one: the opaque material maximises privacy on the street side of the home. Despite its modern qualities, the muted colours and overall form of the structure mesh well with the other buildings on the street. House for a Photographer is unique but not out of place.
The interior is comprised of a large, open room on the ground floor and a bedroom upstairs. Rather than separating the photographer’s studio and living space, the two functions sit in tandem in this residence. The multi-purpose rooms draw parallels to traditional Japanese living, where one room is often used as the sleeping, dining, and living space.
The finish materials are extremely simple here: polished concrete floors, white walls, and a few wood accents. Light, being a crucial part of photography, is carefully considered. Skylights cast dramatic shadows in the space, while larger windows allow rooms to be fully illuminated by natural light. The interior is decorated creatively, with vintage furniture, musical instruments, and selective artworks casually laid against the walls.

Here are some fresh work in progress shots of MICA :) Really having fun with it now that all the hard work modeling and texturing is mostly done. Having the ability to riff in Octane and see real time what effect my lighting and camera position are having on the image is such a massive creativity and productivity boost. Also working through some updates to the UI.
For anyone who is interested in seeing some real in-depth process for this project, over the next 8 weeks I will be an apprentice for Ash Thorp’s Main Title Design class at Learnsquared. Anyone who is signed up for the Learnsquared Package of the class will be able to see me go through the process of developing this project into a motion design ad piece, step by step. Hit me up if you have any questions about this!

We were commissioned to design & develop the 2015 Annual Report. By using satin indigo paper, playful typography, reductive icons, charts & tables, we tried to add some fresh notes to their previous visuals, but still remain the sharp corporate look.

The Krane | Arcgency
Architecture firm Arcgency has turned an industrial coal crane in a Copenhagen harbour into a luxury two-person retreat.
Located on the edge of Nordhavn, one of the last harbours under renovation in Denmark’s capital, The Krane sits on the waterfront and accessed by a drawbridge-like staircase.
The multi-tiered structure comprises a reception area on the ground floor and a glass-walled meeting room on the first floor.
A spa and terrace is found on the second floor, and a hotel room/living space complete with a lounge and terrace make up the top floor. Each area is available for hire separately.
